“As you think back to one year ago as you were getting ready for graduation and starting your year of service with Rochester Youth Year and AmeriCorps*VISTA, what expectations did you have? Were these expectations met? Exceeded? Or was everything you thought this year would be completely wrong?”.

I had a pretty good idea of what my day to day tasks would consist of prior to starting my year of service seeing that I was good friends with one of the last year Vistas and was informed about indirect service. I was ready for this role but I certainly did not expect the impact that I would be making on the people I serve. I’ve been lucky enough to meet and interact with some of the young people whose lives I work towards improving. I am proud to say that my expectations of opening doors and allowing community building oppurtunites for young people was far exceeded.
